Dear Friends,
Recently, we posted about High Teas and that the Hotel Loutrel in downtown Charleston was featuring Oliver's Teas for their afternoon tea. I had the chance to attend, and it was amazing! The folks at Haper's Bazaar agree. Check out their review of Hotel Loutrel (Link Here) as well as our own review below!
I cannot recommend the experience highly enough!
Dear Oliver,
I recently had the fortune of enjoying a spectacular Saturday at Lady Loutrel’s Afternoon Tea in Downtown Charleston, S.C. at the charming Loutrel hotel. The tea service is new to the property this summer and it has certainly made a splash! The organizers have left nothing to chance with decorations, table service, food, and tea all receiving high marks.
First, the wonderful Oliver Pluff tea selections are abundant and currently feature
Countess Grey, East Indian, Masala Chai, Blackberry, Passion Fruit Peach, Jasmine, White Peony, and Hibiscus. Each guest selects a favorite and they all arrive at the table perfectly brewed in generous tea pots. In addition, lovely Iced Peach tea is also available.
Because “Tea” is really all about the tea – The Loutrel has certainly made the right choice serving the wonderful Oliver Pluff blends. In current afternoon tea fashion, sparkling wines and tea cocktails were also available.
After the tea was served; large, fresh scones arrived in fruit and chocolate varieties. As I have noted before, scones are a must and Lady Loutrel did not disappoint. And, in keeping with the praise-worthy attention to detail, clotted cream, honey, lemon curd, and jam were there on the table ready and waiting.
This course was followed by traditional finger sandwiches in five varieties. On the day I attended; Pimento Cheese, Chicken Salad, Bacon & Sweet Cream Cheese, Smoked Salmon, and Cream Cheese & Cucumber were offered. Our group raved about the fresh ingredients and delicious bites.
It would seem we could not enjoy our meal any more and then the sweets arrived
featuring Petit Fours, Macarons, Canele, and Seasonal Cake. It was a perfect finale for such a lovely menu.
Clearly, the chef was to be commended, but the staff deserved high praise as well. Our servers were helpful and attentive and those behind the scenes decorating the lovely table with fresh flowers and fine China settings deserve a note of appreciation as well.
For anyone desiring a special and luxurious culinary event in Downtown Charleston, Lady Loutrel’s Afternoon Tea should be high on the list.
